The Cyclades were colonized by the Ionians in the 10th and 9th centuries BC and flourished in the 8th to 6th centuries BC, but only Delos retained its importance thereafter. It served as the headquarters and treasury of the Delian League led by Athens in the 5th century BC.
Ios, Mykonos, and Santorini are perhaps the best-known Cyclades islands. Besides, Paros, Naxos, and Milos, the lush Kea, the dramatic Andros, and Kythnos with its hot springs are less well-known. The Cyclades are located close to one another, allowing their guests to take a relaxed approach to their vacation and enjoy a week or two of island-hopping to a peaceful island. In the center of the Cyclades lies the sacred island of Delos, the birthplace of Apollo, like a precious jewel.
You can explore some of the most beautiful and unspoilt archipelagos and smaller ones from your luxury yacht. Villages and cities with whitewashed cube like houses, sometimes located right near lovely coves, like in Mykonos or Paros, or even seemingly stuck to one of the mountainous islands with steep slopes and cliffs, such as Santorin, Siphos or Ios. Sleepy Greek cities alternate with imposing old towns. Sailing from mid-June till early September is determined by the powerful Meltemi, which usually is perceived as cool and further more it usually brings clear skies and sunny weather. Anyone, that would prefer a more quiet and relaxed cruise should come before or after this season, when there are ideal sailing winds and lower tourist numbers.
