Day 1: MARMARIS

After a welcome cocktail and a small aperatif, you will be informed about the route and life on board. On the first day you have the opportunity to sail into a bay immediately or you can overnight in the harbor to explore the city.

The history of Marmaris dates back to ancient times, when it all started with the arrival of a tribe in the region, whose leader was called Kar. After the tribe's settlement, the region was named "Karia" or "Caria", named after their leader, meaning the land of "Kar".  In the 6th century BC The region was known as Physkos (Ancient Greek) and was in a part of Caria that belonged to Rhodes, with a splendid port and a grove dedicated to Leto, mother of Apollo and Artemis. Marmaris was located on the trade route between Rhodes and Egypt, which passed through Anatolia. Hence the location of Marmaris has always been attractive to the invaders. The city was conquered by Lydians, Persians, Helens, Seleucids, Romans and Byzantines and was taken by Turks in the 13th century. In the 13th century, during the time of a member of the Anatolian Union, the Beylic of Mentese, the city became known as Marmaris. The name derives from the Greek màrmaron (marble), Turkish mermer, in reference to the rich marble deposits in the region and the city's port's prominent role in the marble trade. In 1798, British Admiral Horatio Nelson took cover in the harbor with his entire fleet, en route to northern Egypt to defeat Napoleon's French armada at the Battle of Abukir. In 1957, Fethiye earthquakes almost completely destroyed the city. Only the Castle of Marmaris and the historical buildings surrounding the fortress remained undamaged. Marmaris therefore became a place where different civilizations ruled over time and there is architectural and historical evidence of the presence of the Egyptians, Assyrians, Ion, Dor, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantium, Seljuks and Ottomans.

Due to its geographical location and narrow entrance, Bozukkale Port was used by the Greek naval forces during the Battle of Peloponnese. Karor, commander of Athens, gathered all his ships here before the War of Cnidus in 395 BC, and Demetrius, son of Antigonos used this port for preparations before attacking Rhodes in 305 BC.

The historian Strabo was right when he commented on Datca's weather: "God sends his favorite servants to Datca, that they may live longer!" According to legend, the Spanish pirates who sailed along the peninsula about 500 years ago sailed theirs Plague-suffering fellows in Sarigerme Bay. However, the crew members left to die recovered due to the high levels of oxygen in the Datca air and thus all survived. In 550s BC The inhabitants of Cnidos wanted to dig a tunnel in the narrowest piece of land of the peninsula between the Hisaronu Gulf and the Gokova Gulf as a line of defense against the Persians. In this way, they would connect the two gulfs and defend them more easily.
